Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit
“And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.” - John 12:44-46
Matt Muraski is the VP of International Programs and Supply Chain. He recently traveled to Haiti with the primary goal of visiting the town of Jeremie, which is located on the far southwestern tip of Haiti. Jeremie was devastated by Hurricane Matthew two years ago.The air was crystal clear and smooth as we looked down on the pristine shoreline of Haiti’s western peninsula. The steady hum of the small plane’s single engine provided steady reassurance that all was well with the only expedient way to get to the remote town of Jeremie.
You may remember that this town was nearly destroyed by Hurricane Matthew in late 2016.
Since that time, FSMC has been working with partners Mission of Hope (MOH) and Haiti Bible Mission (HBM) to deliver close to 10 million meals to the area, including small remote mountain villages.
During our trip, we learned that HBM was one of the only ministries that reached these villages, some of them only accessible by walking for hours up and down steep terrain. It was and is amazing, dangerous and hard work.
So who knew these people on the very edge of this small island needed help? It’s so difficult to get here. Then the answer becomes apparent:
“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.” - Nahum 1:7
I often tell people the Christian “supply chain” is the most effective in the world. The last leg of the journey is made box by box, borne on the heads and shoulders of dedicated servants.
This chain of God’s grace and provision is only possible by the combined efforts of donors, volunteers, staff and our in-country partners.
All these relationships are precisely put together because our Father sees all of His children and answers their prayers – especially in desperate times.
Hope is being restored. In this, we know that He sees all of us, and just as important, we see Him.
