Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit
South Sudanese refugees in Uganda facing hunger
“God will feed those people.”
That’s what Deborah’s* grandmother tells her when the 12-year-old girl worries about the friends and family she left behind in a refugee settlement.
Deborah is a refugee from South Sudan. She spent years growing up in the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement in Uganda. After her parents died, her grandmother took her in. When her grandmother had the chance to send Deborah to school in Kampala for a better future, she took it.
Today, Deborah is doing well. She has big dreams. But her heart is still in Kiryandongo because many of the people she loves are still there.
Deborah told us, “In Kiryandongo, food wasn’t guaranteed.” She remembers how thin she was and what it felt like to wonder if there would be enough.
Kids shouldn’t have to carry the weight of hunger
Now Deborah receives MannaPack® meals at school. She feels stronger. Still, she carries the weight of the people she left behind. She said, “I don’t know how I’m going to support them. I’m still in primary school.”
Her grandmother tells her, “My child, you will pray to God … He will feed those people.”
But no child should have to carry that kind of worry.
Your gifts are an answer to her prayers
Deborah doesn’t know how to help. But you do.
Because generous supporters give, meals are reaching children in places where hunger is urgent and kids are most vulnerable, including refugee settlements like Kiryandongo. A dependable meal helps a child grow stronger and keep learning. It helps families hold on to strength when so much else feels uncertain.
And it helps a child like Deborah know something she needs to hear: The people you love are not forgotten.
