Urgent: Every major factor driving hunger has converged in the Sahel, a region in Africa.

The Sahel stretches from Senegal and Mauritania through Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad and into Sudan, including parts of Nigeria.

Just below the Sahara Desert, a hunger emergency is deepening across a region called the Sahel.

Conflict and displacement are cutting people off from farms and markets. Extreme weather and increasing food and fuel prices make it harder to grow food or afford it.

In other words, the biggest drivers of hunger are all hitting at once. Families in the Sahel are running out of food and options.

An estimated 10 million people are already facing acute hunger (WFP, 2026), including 3.5 million people in areas cut off from assistance. When families can’t reach food or make an income, kids weaken fast. But our partners are on the ground, working right now to get meals where they’re needed most.
