How one girl and her chickens fundraised to feed a child for a year

Meet Eloise — a 9-year-old with big heart for feeding kids. Earlier this year, Eloise and her Girl Scout troop joined us at a food packing session, and something clicked for her that day. Seeing the impact of her efforts firsthand, Eloise walked away inspired and determined to do more. She made it her mission to raise $106 — the amount needed to feed one child a daily meal for an entire year with FMSC.

But how does a 9-year-old come up with $106? That’s where Eloise’s creativity (and her chickens!) came in.
Eloise’s family raises six chickens with names as fun and unique as she is: Reverend Mother, Molly, Potato, Roxy, Taylor Swift and Lolly. With a little brainstorming, Eloise had a lightbulb moment — she could sell fresh eggs to raise the money!
With her mom’s help, Eloise shared her mission on Facebook, and soon enough, orders came rolling in. Whether by bike, on foot or in the car, Eloise delivered eggs all over her neighborhood. Before long, she had reached her goal.
What started as a simple idea became a powerful act of love — one that will change another child’s life. Eloise didn’t stop there, either. She’s already thinking about what more she can do, saying, "I don't want families to worry about finding enough food to feed their children."

Eloise, your compassion, creativity and determination are an inspiration. Thank you for turning eggs into meals, and hunger into hope.
