Antonio Dowels rolled into the South Florida MobilePack™ in a wheelchair and set a sack full of cash on the table. He had heard about the 5.4-million meal event and raised close to $300.

At first, Antonio wasn’t sure what he would be able to do at an FMSC packing session. He’s in a wheelchair, and he can’t move his fingers.

“When I saw the sealer, the light came on and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m a sealer!'” he said. “It doesn’t matter what your physical ability is…you can be used by Feed My Starving Children.”

At MobilePack events, two people seal the bags. One holds the bag and the other pushes down the sealer.

The 26-year-old law student was paralyzed from the chest down in a car crash when he was in high school.

Between classes, football and running track, Antonio was exhausted, he said. He was about five minutes from home after a track meet when he fell asleep at the wheel and his car ran under a semi-truck that was turning at an intersection. He broke his neck.

“I wouldn’t let this deter me; I still had a dream,” he said after the packing session. “It doesn’t matter what your physical ability is, or your age or where you’re from–if you’re determined, anything is possible.”

Antonio’s group packed 14 boxes. They were a part of packing more than 5 million meals.

“There’s people in this world who really need your help,” he said. “They don’t know you, but any little thing will help.
