Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit
The aftermath of the Venezuela earthquakes
Two major earthquakes struck Venezuela just 39 seconds apart on June 24, causing widespread destruction and disrupting life for millions. The Northern Venezuela earthquakes struck near Caracas, one of the country’s most populated areas, amplifying the impact on children and families.
As of June 29, at least 1,700 people have died. Over 3,100 are injured and tens of thousands remain missing while the search for survivors continues. Aftershocks terrify residents and increase the damage to thousands of buildings, homes and critical infrastructure. Beyond the physical damage, families are grieving lost loved ones while facing shortages of shelter, clean water, electricity and food.
Hunger in Venezuela
Adding to the crisis, even before the earthquakes, more than 5 million people in Venezuela already face critical food insecurity. Now, hunger relief is even more urgent.
In response, FMSC food partners have requested nearly 3 million FMSC meals, and more requests are expected in the coming days as recovery efforts continue.
Vulnerable children and families — already hungry — are being pushed even deeper into crisis.
As families recover, FMSC partners are working to provide food assistance.

It can feel overwhelming and hopeless when disaster strikes around the world. The truth is that you can make a difference for families affected by crisis like the earthquakes in Venezuela.
Here are two simple ways to support Venezuela disaster relief:
- Every time you volunteer to pack meals, you help ensure FMSC can respond quickly when disasters create urgent hunger needs.
- You can also donate to help fund meals for families in Venezuela and other sites of crisis around the world.
