Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit
“If people come together, they can even mend a crack in the sky.” — Somali Proverb
Last June, more than 15,000 of you joined hands will your Twin Cities neighbors to pack an astounding 4.9 million meals at the Love Somalia MobilePack™ event.
We are still amazed. Each of these meals is feeding children on the brink of starvation in Somalia through our partners Matter, ARAHA and MNCAPD.
"I can see the children faces have changed," ARAHA's Executive Director, Mohamed Idris, said. "Their physical appearance change and just that tell you that the product that we sent have an impact on their health."
A year later, Somalia is facing a new challenge – the heaviest rainfall in more than three decades.
At least 300 people have been killed by flooding across East Africa and the Horn of Africa this year, according to global news agency IRIN.
IRIN reports that in Somalia, more than 200,000 people have been displaced from their homes – many of which were makeshift shelters intended to offer short-term respite from the drought.
Hope is Greater
At FMSC, we believe that food assistance is so important in tandem with community development. We are honored to work side by side with others working toward the same goal with others who share our belief that hope is greater.
Hope is greater than conflict. It’s greater than drought and famine and disease. It’s greater than earthquakes and hurricanes. It’s greater than poverty. And it’s greater than hunger.
Thank you for believing this. Every time you put on a hairnet and pack meals or write a check or drop a quarter in a bucket, you are saying, "Yes. Hope IS greater."
What you do makes a difference. We need you more than ever as conflicts and natural disasters continue to wreak havoc in the lives of children around the world.
We are celebrating the difference you made at the Love Somalia event, and we're asking you to sign up to pack even more meals this summer. Our goal is to pack 1 million meals a day – meals that are badly needed by our friends in Somalia and other regions around the world affected by droughts, flooding and disaster.
