FMSC Hunger Bulletin | June 2025

Each meal you pack, fund and pray over equips FMSC partners to do transformative work around the world. Hunger relief is usually just part of what our partners do — but food is the foundation for so much more.

HAND IN HAND: CONFLICT, DISPLACEMENT AND HUNGER

War and persecution have forced over 120 million people to flee their homes — the highest number ever recorded. Hunger plays a complex role in these crises. It’s often a root cause of conflict, fueling desperation and unrest. And it’s always a consequence, as displaced families lose access to stable food, clean water and basic healthcare.

FMSC meals help partners respond quickly — and walk with families for the long haul — in places impacted by conflict and displacement.

Population displaced by conflict: 1.2 million

Years of war and instability have taken a heavy toll in Iraq. Though declared over, conflict has left behind deep scars. Nearly 1.2 million people remain displaced inside the country, and more than 4 million people need humanitarian assistance. Many live in camps or makeshift shelters and struggle to access food, clean water and medical care.

FMSC partners use MannaPack® meals to support work in Iraq, including:

  • Mobile medical clinics for displaced families
  • Nutrition for families in refugee camps
  • Support and specialized care for disabled individuals

Total displaced population: 4.5 million

South Sudan faces one of the world's most catastrophic hunger crises. The world's youngest nation has been devastated by years of brutal civil war, compounded by relentless natural disasters and complete economic collapse, leaving millions displaced and desperate. The conflict in neighboring Sudan has unleashed a massive wave of refugees into South Sudan — tragically, they're fleeing into an even more dire situation.

A staggering 7.1 million people — more than half the population — now face severe hunger, making this one of the most acute humanitarian emergencies on Earth.

FMSC partners use MannaPack® meals to support work in South Sudan, including:

  • Emergency food distributions
  • School feeding programs
  • Maternal and infant nutrition care
