Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit
Each meal you pack, fund and pray over equips FMSC partners to do transformative work around the world. Hunger relief is usually just part of what our partners do — but food is the foundation for so much more.
Ethiopia | Africa
In Ethiopia, dueling emergencies fueled by drought and conflict have a staggering 11.8 million people across the country facing severe hunger. Since 2019, the Horn of Africa has endured five failed rainy seasons, drying up water sources and decimating livestock. This is the most severe and protracted drought in decades.
Historic famine in Ethiopia killed an estimated 1 million people between 1983 and 1985 — making it one the most devastating humanitarian events of the century. Millions were displaced, impacting families for generations. The country has made remarkable gains in the intervening decades, and the current drought is a tragic setback.
While ongoing conflict disrupts food distributions, FMSC partners continue to get food into the hands of hungry families.
FMSC food is used to support our partners’ work in Ethiopia, including:
- Shelter and care for homeless youth
- Women and girls empowerment programs
- Technical and vocational training
- Clean water initiatives
